this hazardous weather outlook is for western north carolina.

. day one ... today and tonight.

no hazardous weather is expected at this time.

. days two through seven ... thursday through tuesday.

a cold front will move east across the north carolina mountains on
thursday ... ushering much colder air into the region. abundant
moisture in the northwest flow behind the front will combine with
the cold air to create the potential for snow showers to develop
across the north carolina mountains thanksgiving night through
friday evening. any accumulations with these snow showers would
impact mainly locations above 3500 feet and areas along the
immediate tennessee border.

uncertainty still exists regarding the duration and intensity of
the snowfall ... but current indications are that an inch or two of
snow accumulation will be possible along the higher ridge tops by
the time the snow showers end friday evening. little or no
accumulation is currently expected in the lower valleys of the
southwest and central mountains. keep abreast of the latest
forecasts since snowfall predictions can change considerably over
time.

in addition to the potential for light accumulating snowfall ... gusty
winds will also develop thursday night through friday. sustained
northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will be likely by daybreak friday
across the mountains ... with gusts of 40 to 50 mph possible along
the higher ridge tops.

. spotter information statement...

none.
