marine weather discussion for gulf of mexico ... caribbean sea and
southwest north atlc s of 31n w of 55w
gulf of mexico cold front from a 1008 mb low pres just w of
tampa bay to the bay of campeche will move e of the the area
later tonight. strong nly winds behind the front with winds up
to 30 kt. the winds decrease some wed night. a trough develops
along the coast of texas extending s toward tampico mexico late
wed. gfs develops a low pres along the trough thu night and
moves the low through the straits of florida sat. the gfs has
backed off on the gale force winds and the ensemble shows no
probability to 34 kt winds in the area. so will continue with
winds to 30 kt. a cold front will move rapidly across the area
with the low and strong nly winds sweep across the area behind
the front. the front will move e of the area sat. strong ne
winds over the e gulf sat the light winds across the entire area
sun.
high pres over the atlc zone will move e as a cold front moves
off the se u. s. coast tonight. sly winds increasing over the nw
portion of the area and will be to gale force tonight. winds
also increase to gale force behind the front. the front will
extend from 31n76w to 25n80w tonight and from 31n69w to central
cuba wed and e of the area thu. winds will continue at gale
force over the ne portion of the area through thu then below
gale force thu night. large swell to over 20 ft will move into
the ne portion of the area starting wed night then slowly
subside fri and sat. lots of forecast uncertainty continues for
late fri. as stated above the gfs moves the low from the gulf of
mexico toward straits of florida with the european model being a
a little further to the n as it moves into the atlc with
possible gale force winds. will continue with the current
forecast wording.
weak front from 22n59w to 20n55w will dissipate tonight.
next cold front will move into the yucatan channel this evening
and extend from central cuba to gulf of honduras wed and become
diffuse thu. nly winds winds increase to 20 kt nw of the front.
next cold front will move into the yucatan channel around fri
evening and extend from w cuba to honduras sat and dissipate
sun.
